TABLE MOUNTAIN ROCKS!

Equinox Sun Set - due West direction - seen from above Llandudno, Cape Town through the Suikerbossie "marker stone'
A relatively new field of academic study, archaeoastronomy, investigates how the ancients applied astronomy in their lives, as well as in their art and architecture. The most famous and significant archaeo-astronomical sites include Stonehenge in England, Chichen Itza' in southern Mexico, and Fajada Butte in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico USA. Because of the Earth's seasonal movement, a shadow cast by the sun on a petroglyph moves measurably everyday of the year, except near the times of the solstices. The term solstice refers to the most northerly and southerly horizon positions of the sun in June and December. The secrets of these monumental sites were unravelled by understanding that the stones are aligned with the sun on these important days of the year. Dozens of these sites provide compelling evidence that the early inhabitants possessed the knowledge to recognize the equinoxes and other calendrical events.

THE WINTER SOLSTICE SUN SET - LION'S HEAD AND TABLE MOUNTAIN
1) The Winter Solstice Sun Set (June) lights up the front of Table Mountain and creates a shadow behind Lion's Head. (2) The sun sets through the "gateway" known as Kloof Nek between Table Mountain & Lion's Head.

Below is the rock known as "Nefertiti"
which marks the Winter Solstice Sun Set from the front of Table Mountain.
Next is the "Muizenberg profile" keeping an eye out for the
Winter Solstice Sun Rise which peeps through the dolman (doorway)
on the other side of the kloof, on the Cape Peninsula.
The doorway & the eye line up with the Winter Solstice Sun Rise.

On RIGHT - "Pyramid with All Seeing Eye" lights up at the Summer Solstice Sun Set
Below - the Mother Stone - in the centre of the "Pathway of the Sun" above Hout Bay - lights up with the Equinox Sun Set (March & September).
Below - strange arrows of light appear on the Winter Solstice Sun Set
when the sun hits this rock above the Sun Valley, near Fish Hoek where an ancient burial site has been dated to 14 000yrs old.
